Comet theory crashes

By Mark Luedtke

It’s hard to imagine how scientists can be as wrong as they were about Comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko (67P) and still be considered experts. The Rosetta mission to the comet was a brilliant engineering success, but the science was an equally dismal failure. Scientists were wrong about everything.

The best measure of a theory is its predictive ability. The failures of comet theory started before Rosetta reached the comet when scientists were surprised by its appearance.

Comets are supposed to be leftovers from the origin of the solar system four billion years ago. Dirty snowballs magically formed from accumulating ices in the unfathomable depths of space far beyond the orbit of Pluto at near absolute zero temperature where the sun is just a bright star. According to theory, comets form so far from the sun they’re effectively stationary. The slightest movement either ejects them from the solar system or sends them hurtling toward the sun. In such an environment, it’s effectively impossible for two comets to collide, much less weld together. Yet 67P is double-lobed.

Furthermore, the comet looked nothing like a dirty snowball. No ices were visible. It looked like a mountain-sized piece of slag produced in a blast furnace. The eyeball test shows 67P is rocky, not a dirty snowball.

The troubled landing of Rosetta’s Philae lander seems a metaphor for comet theory in general. Philae had been designed to land on a dirty snowball. When you drop a metal object in snow, it behaves differently than when you drop it on rock. A metal object, Philae bounced off the comet, further proving the comet is rock, not dirty snow.

The lander bounced several times but luckily ended up on the comet, sideways, but still able to perform some science experiments. The first picture it sent back of its location showed the unmistakable vista of a rocky cliff face. USA Today reported, “It may not be entirely the fault of the machine that Philae didn’t stay put. The lander’s bounce shows that the comet’s surface isn’t just a dust field, as expected, but also includes hard surfaces, ‘which was a surprise to us,’ [mission scientist] Sierks said.”

By then comet theory was smashed. Comet 67P was indisputably rocky, not a dirty snowball, but the pseudo-scientists who make a living promoting the dirty snowball theory weren’t about to surrender their privileged positions at the tax trough by admitting the evidence proved them wrong. They went into hiding while they searched for a way to save their phony-baloney jobs.

Eventually they emerged with a self-serving tweak to their theory: comets are still dirty snowballs, but the ices are hidden under a rocky exterior. They didn’t bother to explain how primordial bodies never exposed to heat formed a rocky exterior. They need more tax dollars to find that out.

But 67P’s surprises keep coming. The Los Angeles Times recently highlighted the discovery of molecular oxygen. “‘The first time we saw it, we all went a little bit into denial because molecular oxygen was really not expected to be found on a comet,’ said Kathrin Altwegg of the University of Bern in Switzerland, the project leader for ROSINA, the Rosetta Orbiter Spectrometer for Ion and Neutral Analysis,” it wrote. “‘It does not sound that spectacular, but it is actually the most surprising discovery we have made so far on 67P,’ she said…”

The worst part of these failures of theory is many had been disproved by exploration of previous comets, but the theory never changes because it would end the careers of the pseudo-scientists who control the tax dollars. The private sector couldn’t tolerate such failure, but government rewards it.

In contrast, the rocky nature of comets, molecular oxygen and other characteristics of comets were predicted by Electric Universe (EU) advocate Wallace Thornhill. Documented at, EU theory states comets weren’t formed billions of years ago from aggregation, but were blasted from planetary bodies including Earth in powerful electrical events in the solar system, some observed by our ancestors and enshrined in myth. The only difference between comets and asteroids is their orbits. Because comets have eccentric orbits, electrical stress creates comas and tails as they move closer to the sun, which bombards the negatively-charged bodies with positive ions—plasma electric currents—misnamed the solar wind. The solar system and universe are powered and ordered not by gravity, but electricity, which is a trillion, trillion, trillion times more powerful.
