Nathan Kalish & the Wildfire

By Kyle Melton

Hailing from the unlikely locale of Grand Rapids, Mich., Nathan Kalish & The Wildfire deliver a sonic stew that sounds much more at home in a backwoods swamp. The band is currently out on tour in support of their latest album, Waterbirds, on which they combine muscular riffing with shimmering jangle, healthy doses of psychedelic folk and classic songcraft into an engaging blend of Americana that lands somewhere between Tom Petty and Jack White. These Yankees aren’t afraid to admit that rock n’ roll hits a zenith when it dips deep into its southern-fried roots. Nathan Kalish & The Wildfire will perform on Thursday, Jan. 27 at South Park Tavern, 1301 Wayne Ave. Also on the bill are Charge Scenic and David Payne. Admission is $5 for all ages. Doors open at 9 pm. For more information, visit www.myspace.com/nathankalish.
