The Professors

By Matt Clevenger

Dayton’s best indie and garage-rock will be at Blind Bob’s Tavern Friday, Feb. 11, as the Professors host a special CD release party for their new album “Will Not Lie Down,” with opening act the Dirty Socialites. Formed in 2004, the Professors are well-known for their catchy, raw rock n’ roll sound, and the band has already released two albums including an EP (“Get Out Of My Head”) and a seven-inch split with My Latex Brain. The band features Richard Stockton (vocals), Kyle Byrum (guitar), Phil Caviness (drums), Tommy Salvatierra (organ) and Derek Gullett (bass). Friday’s show at Blind Bob’s is a re-release of sorts for “Will Not Lie Down;” the band actually gave the album away free online for a year before fan requests led them to produce a CD version. The show starts at 10 p.m., and more information can be found online at www.myspace.com/theprofessors, www.facebook.com/theprofessors or www.myspace.com/blindbobs.
