Critic’s Pick – The White Soots

The White Soots

By Kyle Melton

With the recent release of their eponymous debut, local trio The White Soots offered up an excellent dish of quality rock n’ roll. Fueled by the guitar histrionics of Kyle Byrum, the Soots filter 70s arena sludge, 60s garage, and 50s rock n’ roll into an exceptionally engaging package. With copious doses of fuzzy psychedelia, deep rhythmic grooves and Byrum’s growling vocal delivery, this debut serves as an excellent distillation of the numerous power trios that have cast long shadows across the rock landscape for nearly a generation while avoiding mere imitation. For those who still like to get up and shake it, tune in to The White Soots now. The White Soots will perform on Saturday, Feb. 19 at Oregon Express, 336 E. Fifth St. Also on the bill are The Lions Rampant (from Cincinnati) and Garbage Kills Bears. Doors at 9 pm. Admission is $5 for 21 & up. For more information, visit thewhitesoots.bandcamp.com.
