Opening each weekly issue of the DCP can be likened to regularly visiting a familiar highway known for spectacular traffic accidents, most particularly when one encounters the latest rant from Mr. Luedtke, whose one-note screeds one reads with the fascination of witnessing the results of one of those accidents: you know the hideousness of what you'll see and the revulsion you'll feel, but you can't resist looking anyway.

Never mind Mr. Luedtke's precious assertions about governmental control of the medical and pharmaceutical and food industries (and presumably any and all other industries which Mr. Luedtke resents the regulation thereof), let's just take a quick look at the sort of "evidence" he likes to present in support of his belabored theses.

Do yourselves a favor with a quick websearch on "nutrition institute of america," "gary null," and "quack" and see what you find. Then ask yourself how it is that Mr. Luedtke presents his information from such sources. Then ask yourself how Mr. Luedtke reconciles "get government completely out of our lives" with "hold people accountable for (the consequences of) their actions."

I'll wait.

Now, that being said, I'd like to mention that texting while driving is, indeed, not the only dangerous distraction while driving. Such distractions are, in fact, legion, and all drivers who cause crashes because of them ought to be held accountable. My question for Mr. Luedtke is quite simple: who will do the holding accountable?

Meanwhile, I look forward to his next rhetorical wreck with wicked anticipation.

Sincerely,
Geoff Burkman
