Clara,
Even though women aren't second class today, they should be. Women are useless and they should remain quiet unless spoken to. A woman belongs serving her husband in any way possible. Cooking, cleaning etc. I am tired of women like you who think they can go out and take our jobs and demasculate us into being equals. Seriously, get a life.

I think marriage suits some people and not others. I also believe that you can have marriage or a committed monogamous relationship without the "til death do us part" inclusion. American culture has changed so much, and our lifespan has increased significantly, so that has a very different requirement than it did in 1950 when women were still very second class - unable to secure credit on their own, few ways to actually obtain adequate employment to support themselves, unable to divorce abusive husbands, etc. Being married 60 years to the same person is a big deal, especially when our culture has moved even farther toward self-oriented lifestyle... kids are growing up with the family rearranging itself around the children, unlike when I was young, we fit into the needs of the family, not the other way around. We have become somewhat deterritorialized and highly mobile, with people moving away from family support units and our values have changed. I think there is room for everyone to do what works for them, and marriage should not be seen as "the" model for relationships, but one avenue.
