There’s an old saying that anything worth doing is worth doing twice. Well, in the case of the now annual Yiiiikes! EDM event that takes place during the Halloween season—an event that’s now in its third incarnation and with an apparent popularity within the Gem City party crowd—it appears this yearly tradition may not change anytime soon.

Yiiiikes! is the brainchild of William Dickensheets and Tony DeSaro, who collectively make up the Dayton-based enterprise known as 3DMentional Entertainment. For the last few years or so, 3DMentional has been building up a resume and reputation as the guys who bring in nationally-known electronic dance music DJs to the Gem City with resounding success. According to Dickensheets, the genesis of 3DM and Yiiiikes! was fairly simple.

“Both my partner Tony DeSaro and I were doing shows in Dayton,” Dickensheets explains. “Tony had been throwing them in the area for years prior while also being a DJ, and I had always heard great things about him. I on the other hand, was new to throwing events in the area, but not new to the business of doing it. We sat down for a meeting in which we threw ideas back and forth as well as shared our visions for what we wanted to accomplish. It was in October 2013 that we combined our forces to throw our first event together called ‘Yiiiikes!’ We brought in lots of heavy hitting regional talent from Detroit, Cincinnati, Louisville, and Dayton.”

After the success of the initial Yiiiikes! in 2013, the duo christened their partnership as 3DMentional Entertainment and have gone on to produce dozens of EDM events for the Dayton faithful with a succinct vision in mind and have witnessed remarkable success.

“The brand began to take shape,” Dickensheets says. “From day one Tony and I both wanted to push the envelope on a national scale for Dayton, Ohio. We both know the potential Dayton as a city has, it truly has some of the most passionate fans in the area and we wanted to showcase that. We wanted to get the major artists who typically wouldn’t even give Dayton a chance, to have to stop and take a look. We knew these things would take a lot of work, but it was work we were both willing to do for both us and for Dayton.”

The work Dickensheets and DeSaro have put into their brand have nabbed them some impressive DJs for this year’s Yiiiikes! event, including two internationally renown headliners as well as an impressive roster of regional EDM talent.

“Our performers this year consist of our two headlining slots,” Dickensheets explains. “Justin James is a Minus Records artist. Minus Records label boss Richie Hawtin is a techno legend and one of the fathers of underground electronic dance music, so what better way to show our respect for techno music than to book one of their artists. We also have Manic Focus. These guys have blown the roof off of festivals all over the world. Manic Focus has shared the stage with the who’s who of the festival circuit and is sure to not disappoint!”

Aside from the music, 3DMentional has other impressive festivities on tap for those who get into the Halloween spirit, dress up and join in on the fun.

“3DM loves the people first and foremost, so we treat our fans with some of the best giveaways to show them how much we love them for their support of not only us but also the Dayton music culture,” Dickensheets explains. “Our giveaways we always do in the form of a massive balloon drop during the middle of the event. The balloon drop has kind of taken a mind of its own this year with its reputation for having some really cool stuff in the gift bags. The twist we use is the Halloween costume contest theme. We know that a lot of our followers are creative minded and artistic, so what better way to let them use these things than a costume party, with prizes to best dressed male, female and couple? The outfits have always been great and we encourage everyone to push the limits to get the prizes. The balloon drop this year has well over $2,000 in cash and prizes with roughly 5,000 balloons so it’s going to be crazy.”

And while it’s rewarding for the 3DMentional crew to provide a platform for great DJs to perform and throw a magnificent party, it’s just as important for 3DM to serve the EDM fans and community in the Gem City with something greater than just music.

“3DMentional doesn’t just put on music events—we try to really bring a vibe to it,” Dickensheets says. “We want a safe place for everyone young and old to come to enjoy some of the largest talent the States and the world has to offer. We encourage self-expression through art and music, and we feel it’s possible to do these kinds of things in Dayton [and bring] a few hundred or thousand laughing, smiling Dayton residents of all ages into one area for a night of fun and dancing.”

Yiiiikes! 3 takes place this Saturday, Oct. 24 at The Venue on 3rd, 905 E. Third St. in downtown Dayton. General admission tickets are $20 in advance for patrons 18 and older. Show begins at 9 p.m. For more information please visit
