Hi Matt, thank you for the great post. I wanted to tell you that "The Kiss" is not just happening at the Springs Motel.
It is a public performance piece that is taking place at 80 kissing stations all over downtown Yellow Springs on saturday February 11th. The stations will be inside stores and restaurants and outside on the streets. 80 couples will meet at the steps of the Presbyterian Church at 314 Xenia Ave. to synchronize our watches and give out kissing stations. Then they will go to their stations and be ready to kiss at exactly 3:27 p.m. If anyone wants to be part of "the Kiss" please call Nancy at 767-1366. We are asking for the participants to bring a camera and ask a passerby to take their picture. Then send it in to us. We will make a slide show of the whole event and post it. This is the second time "the Kiss" is being staged. Everyone had such fun that we are doing it again during the Yellow Springs Love-In which takes place Feb.10th-12th.

I live in Yellow Springs and even though I agree with much of the article, the title is completely false. The village has always been a tourist town. The big festivals in June and October are blatant examples of that. Yellow Springs is locally known as "Hippyville". And it truly becomes a characature of itself during "tourist weekends" in the summer. Bright tie-dyed tees, peace sign sunglasses, flowers in dreaded hair. And even though our community is much more diverse than the stereotypical 1960's burnout. We all go along with it. Because tourism is how we survive. It allows us to boycott corporate America within Village borders. It allows us to promote equality, acceptance, and a responsibility towards nature. It allows us to be outside Mainstream America.
